A week, packed with announcements in music tech: The MusicTech Rewinder - Issue #84

Hi,

this week has been packed with news about music tech. That's why I decided to add a few more links to this newsletter than usually.

On Tuesday, we also celebrated "International Women's Day". It's no secret that we are far away from having a balanced music tech ecosystem when it comes to diversity and gender equality. Even though, many pioneers who brought new inventions to the music space were women like Ada Lovelace, Daphne Oram, Margaret Schedel or Laurie Anderson, to just name a few. We need to put more effort into making this space more multifaceted and diverse.

Here are four directories that list women in music tech. The Women Nordic Music Technology, the Wome in Music Information Retrival, the Women in New Interfaces for Musical Expression and a more recent list, created by Hazel Savage from Musiio.

That's great and a good start but I am wondering if a more holistic directory or database with underrepresented people in music tech(founder, freelancer, coder, maker, designer, biz dev., researcher, engineer, etc.) from around the world exists somewhere. If you know of any, please reply to this newsletter.

Ever wondered what the Oldest Music Company in the World is?

Check this article about artists, using plants in their musical setup. I am mentioning this article here because I own two of the PlantWave devices, mentioned in the article and I can confirm that is great fun, listening to my plants music creation and playing with it.

Enjoy reading the news and have a good weekend.

Cheers,

Matt
