Lots Of Music Tech News And More In This Week's "MusicTech Rewinder" - Issue #80

Dear reader,

this week's newsletter comes with a slight delay straight out of quarantine.

Today, I have quite a few other things, besides global music tech news, that I would like to share with you.

1) The pandemic led to a lot of canceled conferences and trade shows in the music (tech) space. Now, it seems that the wait will soon be over. It's a good time to explore new markets. The world's largest trade fair and festival for jazz in Bremen starts with a hybrid setting and sets new accents in the trade fair area and professional program. With innovation in the music industry and crossover markets to be given greater consideration, this is a great opportunity to connect with the jazz community. Take the chance and present yourself in an international context of over 3,400 participants (2019 figures) from over 60 nations. Click here to know more!

2) There have been numerous articles about the artist payout from streaming services. What I like about this article here is that it dives also into not-so-well-known platforms.

3) A good friend of mine is about to open a decentralized museum for NFT art with unique frames, that allow the owner to help curate the exhibitions in this NFT museum experience. It's called Musee Dezentral. Watch the Trailer for it here!

4) Check out Music Ally's report of "The Best Music Marketing Campaigns of 2021". It features case studies, campaign budget data, results, and key learnings.

5) I am in India every year at least twice because my sister lives there, and because I love the chaos and diversity as well as the beauty of this subcontinent. One of the most iconic artists ever with a distinctive voice like no other - Lata Mangeshkar - has now sadly died but her influence will undoubtedly live on forever. There is probably no other singer like her on this planet. Rest in Power!

Enjoy reading and have a wonderful weekend.

Cheers,

Matt

Spotify’s recent Joe Rogan controversy has also deepened a rift between the platform and artists' overpay.

Can Spotify be an ESG stock? Not really. I started to write this post in the pre-Neil Young era and I almost feel like I could stop with the title. But there’s a lot more to it, so let’s look at the many ways Spotify is a fail on the Social part of ESG.
